| Education is something that seems to be universally valued .... and in its true form it is something one is always involved with ... stop learning, stop asking questions, stop thinking, and you are finished!
The Internet provides a massive repository of information that, when approached with thought, should change the way we all develop. The key to this is thought .... learning information just for the sake of learning information makes one into an 'anorak'! Nothing wrong with that in itself (some of my best friends are anoraks) but if that is all one does with the knowledge you are selling yourself short.
Those old enough to remember the start of the Open University will recall the opposition there was to that ground breaking institution .... an institution that is now an acknowledged force in the Higher Education world. The Internet is a similar groundbreaking institution in the making ... the opportunities for true distance learning with effective online, real time, tutorials (plus the facilities to search the worlds reference materials) makes it potentially the greatest tool for widespread education and true sharing of knowledge the world has ever seen - bar none!
Uni-Net has started to bring together some of those resources so that our users have a better idea of what is there and don't have to go searching the net just to get started. We will soon have our own link to the 'ZDnet University' where you can enrol online and take practical computing linked courses either through real time seminars or at your own pace. We have tried out a sample of these courses and find them very good indeed ... even though it is NOT a 'University' in the usual sense of the word. The knowledge, and practical use of that knowledge, is well worth it though and, together with a little bit of thought, can provide really useful introductions to wide areas of computing knowledge.
Although the Uni-Net team has a wide range of educational experiences both in the academic and the real world we need all the help we can get to make this section useful and valid for our users - email us your suggestions / comments / recommendations ... use the 'blue bar' above to keep us on our toes and share your knowledge. |

Note: Our aim is to make Uni-Net unique on the Internet. As well as developing the site based on user feedback and suggestions in general interest topic areas, we are looking to involve Uni-Net users in actively creating areas and maintaining them. In particular we are looking to generate and develop unique community sections to cater for the general and specific needs of the many and diverse cultural/ethnic groups within the United Kingdom. We are hoping to bring all such groups together through one main site whilst providing the space and opportunity for each sector to address their own areas of cultural/ethnic uniqueness. Uni-Net hopes through this approach to encourage and foster the sharing of both the common elements in our society and the differences that we all enjoy. |
